Pomelo Cooler

Pomelo - the chubby and rotund fruit that hails from my hometown of Ipoh.

Pomelos usually come in two varieties - the ones with pink flesh and the pale off-white flesh.  I prefer the off-white types as they are sweeter, the pinkish ones are more sour.  Regular pomelos are about the size of a small football - and they are heavy, so you would usually carry them with both hands.

But a few months ago, my cg member gave me some pomelos that are about the size of a grapefruit...

So cute! Fit just right on my palm.

You open up the fruit exactly like how you would do to a pomelo -
the outer skin is thick and the inner fruit is covered with layers of white skin

I love all things pomelo - from eating it straight as a fruit, or make it into an appetizing salad (very popular as a Thai fusion salad or yee sang), or this - my own concoction of a refreshing and fizzy drink - Pomelo Cooler.

My dad bought us some juicy pomelos and I was craving for something fizzy and cold to go with it.  Put as much pomelo sacs as you like - mine has loads of it - and enjoy the pop as the sacs burst with sweet juiciness.

Pomelo Cooler

  • 1/2 cup of ice cream soda
  • 1/2 cup of pineapple juice
  • 1 sprig of mint leaves
  • 2 tbps of pomelo sacs
  • Loads of ice

1.  Mix the ice cream soda and pineapple juice in a glass cup.

2. Add the mint leaves and bruise them slightly to release the flavour and the fragrant oils into the drink.

3.  Top with loads of ice and pomelo sacs, and serve immediately.

    1. You dont like pomelo PH? Yea, i love it in yee sang, makes it so refreshing. I could just eat it with the nuts and shredded veg, minus all those oily crackers.
