Chilled Strawberries with Honey Plum Sauce

There is this cafe that hubs and i like to frequent whenever we are back in Ipoh. This little eatery makes all kinds of snacks and desserts using strawberries as the main ingredient.

Their menu includes strawberry cakes (cheese and non cheese types), strawberry smoothies and juices, strawberry jams and icecreams etc. They also sell fresh punnets of strawberries. It's not cheap, but they are XL sizes and really sweet. The two sisters who started this cafe come from a family that owns a strawberry farm in the highlands, so they get a regular supply of fresh and juicy berries.

One of our favourite items here is their specialty - fresh strawberries with honey plum sauce. I bought a punnet of Korean strawberries from Jaya Grocer the other day, and as I was rinsing the berries for dessert, I suddenly thought of this recipe. It takes no time to prepare and the honey plum sauce is a great accompaniment to tame the tartness of the strawberries.

Chilled Strawberries with Honey Plum Sauce
  • 1 punnet (250g) of strawberries, hulled
  • 2 tbs of honey
  • 1 heap tsp of sour plum powder (the type that you eat with fresh guava)
  • 3 tsp water
1. Chill the strawberries in the fridge for at least 30min. Cut the strawberries into halves and arrange in a dessert bowl.

2. Mix the honey and plum powder with the water until it forms a thick sauce-like consistency. Serve with the cut strawberries - you can either serve the sauce as a dip or pour it over the strawberries. I personally prefer to serve it dipping style - its more fun that way :)

  1. Oh I'm sure this is delicious! We, especially my husband, love sour plum powder! Wow I never tried it with strawberries. Your recipe totally opened my mind to use for other fruits besides guava!

  2. Shall I give strawberries another chance? They look beautiful but so far I don't like the taste. Maybe your honey plum sauce will change my mind :)
