Banana Pancakes

Use pisang emas to make this, it makes the pancakes so much more sweeter and flavourful than the more commonly available pisang berangan or montel.

Also, i burned about five pancakes when i first started cooking it because i wasn't controlling the fire well! Then later as i got the hang of it, i was having two pans going at the same time.

This must be cooked on low heat. Actually, ideally it should be low fire on both the inner and the outer ring of the burner, but i don't think there's any burner that does this. Low heat means only the inner ring is burning. So you need to be careful that the centre bottom of the pancakes dont get burnt while the outer part is still uncooked.

Banana pancakes
Recipe adapted from mameemoomoo

serves 5
  • 4 ripe bananas
  • 1 cup plain flour
  • 1 cup wholemeal flour
  • 3 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 250ml full cream milk
  • 2 eggs
  • Butter for frying
  • 2-3 bananas for serving with the pancakes
  • Honey for drizzling

1. Put all the ingredients into a blender and whizz for 5 seconds.
2. Add a knob of butter in a pan and pour some batter in. When bubbles appear on the surface, flip the pancake onto the other side, and cook for about 10 seconds.
3. Repeat with the remaining batter.
4. Top each pancake with banana slices and honey or just eat plain.

  1. I do agree with both feet up that pisang emas rules over other bananas when it comes to baking.
Long time they didn't exist in my home, cos the banana monster can't stop eating until the whole bunch is gone. I could only NOT buy.

  2. Hi Wendy, thanks for dropping by :) Now you know why my pictures above do not show pancakes topped with slices of bananas - because my house also got a banana monster! luckily I managed to save the last four to make the pancakes. Btw, I love your blog, great recipes :)
