Easy Homemade Durian Icecream

I made this a few weeks ago in anticipation of the dwindling durian season.

I love to make icecream using homemade yogurt.  I am not a fan of milk based icecream, especially the commercial ones.  I find them way too cloying, even the premium brand ones.  I much prefer yogurt based icecream, gelato, or better still, sorbet.

This durian icecream is super easy to make.  You can say it's like a durian froyo because I made it with strained yogurt.  It is egg-less, cream-less and stir-less :)  I won't bluff you and say it has the perfect creamy texture; no it doesn't.  But it is not icy rock hard either.  Something like a harder version of commercial frozen yogurt.  Just leave it in room temperature for about 15min to soften slightly before serving.

Easy Homemade Durian Icrecream

  • 550g good quality durian flesh (I use XO)
  • 200g greek yogurt (storebought or homemade)
  • 2 tblspn cold milk
  • 1 tblpn granulated sugar

1. Puree all the above and pour into a freezer proof container with a lid or wrap with clingwrap.

2.  Freeze overnight.  To serve, leave it in room temperature for 15min to soften slightly before scooping.

  1. I would love this healthier version. The commercial ones are full of flavouring and additives... this is much better.

  6. Hi Esther! I am not a fan of durian but my husband is just nuts about it. This is a really nice healthy ice cream so I'll make some some for him. I'll probably have a taste, too.

    1. Hi Adora, the yogurt tempered the pungency of the durian ever so slightly, so you might be ok with this :) hope your hubby likes it.
