Guiltfree Yogurt Cream Cheese with Herbs

You may be wondering how is this recipe guiltfree?  Well, that's because it's made using low fat yogurt, so you can totally tuck into it without having to worry about the calories :).

I made this using my homemade yogurt, strained it overnight so that it turned thick and creamy, just like cream cheese.

See the whey that has been collected at the bottom of the bowl?

Thick and creamy, minus the calories

Mix in some minced herbs of your choice, garlic, salt and pepper.  Spread this on toast; use as a dip; or my favourite, use as a salad dressing.  Very versatile.

Yogurt Cream Cheese with Herbs

  • 1 cup strained yogurt (homemade or regular yogurt)
  • Pinch of salt
  • Freshly cracked black pepper
  • Pinch of mixed herbs or your favourite herbs (I like to use thyme and rosemary)
  • 1/2 tsp of finely chopped garlic (or use a microplane grater)
  • Chicken salt (optional, but it really adds a real kick to the taste!)

 1.  Mixed the seasonings into the yogurt and adjust the taste to your preference.

Serve the yogurt cream cheese as a dip for these herb lamb meatballs
- recipe for the meatballs is scheduled for posting next month
so watch out for it :)

I always keep a batch of this dressing in the fridge for light
salad lunches.  One of the blogs I follow also made ceasar salad
dressing using strained yogurt - I can't wait to try that version!

Spread it on hot toast - yummy.

  1. I must really try this. I have to overcome my "fear" of plain yogurt. Don't quiet like the taste. That is why I prefer with flavour or blend it with bananas. The salad dressing sounds good.

    1. Phong, you dont like that mouth puckering taste of commercial yogurt rite? Try making your own, the tart taste wont be so noticeable.

  2. Hi Esther, this looks wonderful. I love using yoghurt in baking, cooking, anything! Wish I could make my own. Perhaps I should invest in a yoghurt maker! This recipe sounds delicious. Love it especially with the meat balls. Yummy!

  6. The yogurt you made tasted different from those outside, I think it will be fab when being made into frozen yogurt.

  7. Ahmazing!!!!!!!! Since I started blogging, I've seen homemade yogurt recipes here and there and I've been tempted. I am just being lazy all this time as I go to supermarket and automatically pick up a yogurt. I really need to try this. I think I will not go back to store bought yogurt. Thanks for sharing the delicious cream cheese with herb... perfect for spread/dip! Yum!
